Pastoral City. Working with oils and aerosols, the artist paints contemporary objects and landscapes. His abstract and fine art paintings are influenced by graffiti art to bring an urban experience to canvas.
O’Reilly has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally; group shows include the RHA Annual Exhibition in Dublin (2008 + 2009), the EV+A Annual Exhibition in Limerick (2009), Antics Rogue Show at the Fringe Festival in Dublin (2008), Town and Country at Monster Truck Gallery in Dublin (2009), Meeting of Styles International Graffiti Festival in Belfast (2008), West End in Vancouver, Canada (2006) and a two person show with renowned graffiti artist Maser in Filmbase, Dublin (2007). He also held a solo exhibition with The Loft Gallery, Powerscourt Townhouse in Dublin (2007). In 2008 his work went to auction at Adam’s Auctioneers, Dublin .
O’Reilly (JOR) has contributed to an extremely vibrant and creative art scene within Dublin and Europe . Working with oils and aerosols he paints contemporary objects and landscapes. His abstract and fine art paintings are influenced by graffiti art to bring an urban experience to canvas. O’Reilly has been painting for over fifteen years and his work has featured in international and Irish documentaries, magazines and in numerous art history papers and dissertations.
This collection of urban landscapes from maritime cities aims to portray a mood of reflection and serenity within environments of noise and clutter. Themes include the relentless dominance of nature over the built environment, in such forms as rain, light and mould. They also include the effects of time and change on the city; areas that look and feel completely different at various times of the same day and areas that have changed over years. Another theme is that of graffiti, especially the abstract shapes resulting from graffiti that has been painted over. The pieces also celebrate and explore the active and dormant organs of the city. The city is not just for mechanization. It may be functional, but so are the fascinating features of plants and creatures. Different urban areas feel like different worlds. These works attempt to capture the pastoral like atmospheres of canals, the railway, the docks and old factories.
O’Reilly’s most recent of numerous commissions have included work for the Croydon Park Hotel in Surrey , England , Think House PR in Dublin and Grainne Weber Architects in Dublin , all in 2008.
On Culture Night 2009, which takes place on Friday September 25th, this exhibition will be open until 10.30pm. Over 120 arts and cultural organisations around Dublin will open their doors late, providing hundreds of free events, tours, talks and performances for all to enjoy. An exciting array of street entertainers will be at hand to guide you from one organisation to another.
