Giovedì 24 settembre alle ore 19.00 inaugura A piece of my Art, installazione site-specific di Roberto Amoroso, seconda mostra della serie SPOT nella Project Room del Museo Madre.

SPOT è un progetto che si sviluppa attraverso un ciclo di mostre dedicato ai giovani artisti napoletani alle prime esperienze espositive che si alternano a quelle della serie TRANSIT, di cui la seconda tappa recentemente conclusasi ha riaperto il 9 settembre negli spazi di PiST come evento collaterale della XI Biennale di Istanbul.

SPOT nasce con l’obiettivo di accendere i riflettori per brevi periodi su uno scenario spesso ancora sommerso e trasversale, per favorire una maggiore osmosi tra il museo e il territorio in ossequio alla mission della Project Room che si connota ulteriormente come laboratorio sperimentale di idee, proposte e ipotesi progettuali.

L’installazione gioca su due livelli: uno materico, l’altro metaforico. La Project Room è completamente rivestita da un wall-paper che introduce il visitatore in una dimensione metamorfica: una serie di ibridi umano/animale emerge dalle pareti. L’intera architettura compositiva assume un aspetto visionario: gli esseri inquietanti che la abitano sembrano bloccati nell’attimo prima di rovinare al suolo.

Il lavoro di Amoroso è caratterizzato dalla reinterpretazione di stimoli culturali eterogenei. I riferimenti iconografici desunti sia dalla storia dell’arte - le rappresentazioni delle gigantomachie e la postura della statuaria classica - che dalle riviste patinate di moda si fondono agli spunti teorici: teriomorfismo (ibridazione uomo/animale) e cyborg (ibridazione uomo/macchina), sono cifre dialettiche e stilistiche tipiche della sensibilità del Post-Human. La matericità dell’installazione è contraddetta dalla performance dell’artista che per l’intera durata della mostra, armato di personal computer, “dona” una piccola porzione dell’opera a tutti i visitatori muniti di chiavetta usb che feticisticamente possono così impadronirsene e riprodurla a piacimento.

L’azione performativa chiarifica il gioco di parole che dà il titolo alla mostra, preso in prestito da una famosa canzone di Janis Joplin: Piece of my Heart, quasi a suggerire ironicamente l’equivalenza un pezzo del mio cuore / un pezzo della mia arte, un gesto che con l’ausilio tecnologico da simbolico diventa letterale. Un ulteriore arricchimento di senso è dato dal sonoro dell’installazione: la canzone originale è sottoposta al processo di scomposizione tipico del download analogamente a quanto subisce l’opera attraverso la performance. L’audio deframmentato è ridotto ad una sequenza di sonorità noise.

A piece of my Art è una installazione sinestetica, emblematica del passaggio dall’opera d’arte nell’epoca della sua riproducibilità tecnica a quello dell’opera d’arte nell’epoca della sua riproducibilità digitale, dove l’artista si esprime come forma de-soggettivata mentre l’opera tende a manifestarsi come prodotto impersonale e dispositivo di comunicazione de-realizzato che rende sempre più evanescenti la nozione di diritto d’autore.

Roberto Amoroso è nato a Napoli (1979) dove vive e lavora. A piece of my Art è la sua prima mostra personale.

L’artista, oltre alla serata inaugurale, sarà presente il lunedì, il mercoledì e il venerdì dalle 17 alle 19 per “donare” una piccola porzione dell’opera a tutti i visitatori muniti di chiavetta USB

On Thursday 24th at 7 p.m. it opens A piece of my Art, a site-specific installation by Roberto Amoroso. This is the second exhibition of the SPOT series at Museum Madre’s Project Room.

SPOT is a project developed through a cycle of exhibitions dedicated to the young Neapolitan artists at their first exhibition experience. SPOT alternates with the series TRANSIT whose second step, which has just ended up, has re-opened on September 9th at the PiST space as a collateral event of the XI Istanbul Biennial.

SPOT was born with the objective of spotlighting for shot periods scenery often submerged and transversal. Its aim is facilitating a wider osmosis between the museum and the territory, following the Project Room’s mission to become an experimental lab for ideas, proposals and new project design.

The installation works on two levels: the first is mathematical and the second is metaphorical. The Project Room is fully wrapped with wallpaper that draws the visitor into a metaphorical dimension. A series of human-animal hybrids emerges form the walls. All the compositional architecture takes on a visionary aspect: the disquieting beings that inhabit it seem to be blocked in the instant before they collapse to the ground.

Amoroso’s work is characterized by the reinterpretation of miscellaneous cultural stimuli. The iconographic references come both from history of art (the representation of gigantomachy and the posture of the classic statuary) and the glossy fashion magazines. Besides they melt with theoretical cues such as theriomorphism (hybridisation human being/ animal) and cyborg (hybridisation human being/machine) that are key features of the Post-Human sensitivity. The matter side of the installation is contradicted by the artist’s performance staged for the whole length of the exhibition. Armed with a personal computer, he gives a small portion of this work to all the visitors who are provided with an usb key. In this way they can seize the artwork as a fetish and reproduce it as they like.

The perfomative action clears up the play upon words that underpin the exhibition’s title. It is borrowed from the popular song by Janis Joplin Piece of my Heart and it ironically suggests the equivalence between a piece of my heart and a piece of my art. Thanks to technology this gesture turns from being symbolic into being literal.

The sound aspect of the installation enriches the artwork with a further meaning. The original song is subjected to a process of defragmentation similarly to what happens to the artwork during the performative action. The defrag sound is reduced to a sequence of noise sonority.

A piece of my Art is a synaesthetic installation, emblematic of the changeover from the work of art in the epoch of its technical reproducibility to the work of art in the epoch of its digital reproducibility. In this context the artist expresses himself in an un-subjective way while the work of art tends to show itself as an impersonal product and an undone communication device. This practice makes the notion of copyright always more evanescent.

Roberto Amoroso was born in Naples (1979) where he lives and works. A piece of my Art is his first solo show.

The artist will be present at the show on the opening night and on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to “donate” a small portion of his work to all the visitors provided with an usb key.
