Only on very rare occasions does one meet an artist with a truly unique and original voice. Joelle Tuerlinckx is such an artist. For more than twenty years she has been developing her own language, re-interpreting the world around her, making others see it with fresh eyes. In real time is the umbrella title for Tuerlinckx's exhibition at the SLG and two off-site projects.

Only on very rare occasions does one meet an artist with a truly unique and
original voice. Joëlle Tuerlinckx is such an artist. For more than twenty years
she has been developing her own language, re-interpreting the world around her,
making others see it with fresh eyes. Tuerlinckx is one of the most established
artists in her native Belgium, with a growing international reputation, but
relatively little known in the UK. Her work is site specific to the degree that
it has to be experienced to be fully comprehended, yet it does not sit easily
within the category of 'installation art'. Tuerlinckx finds her space,
interprets it for us, teases out abstract notions and thoughts and gently makes
us look at it again, see it differently and feel it differently. What she does
is ephemeral, yet insistent.
'IN REAL TIME' is the umbrella title for Tuerlinckx's exhibition at the SLG and
two off-site projects. 'SOLAR-ROOM', at the House Gallery, 70 Camberwell Church
Street, is viewable 24 hours a day from the street (from 21 May - 7 July) and
open during Camberwell Arts Week (15-22 June 2002) and 'NIGHT CABIN', sited
outside the North side entrance of Tate Modern (Open daily, 10am-6pm, 19 May - 7
July.)
PRIVATE VIEW SUNDAY 19 MAY, 3-6PM
OPENING TIMES
