Within Limits
LMAKprojects is proud to present Harold Ancart's first solo exhibit in NYC, Within Limits. The exhibit features 2 sculptures, and a drawing that explore space and its limitations.
The largest sculpture is site specific and is made from nylon wire, which is nearly invisible. Ancart thickens the wire with polymer and raw black pigment to make visible points of interest. The sculpture activates unused portions of the physical space. The second sculpture in the exhibit is a steel multiple structure. Both works are basic and simple form, engaging in a strong relation to the surrounding architecture.
Ancart is foremost a draftsman who considers his sculptures as an extension of drawing within the limits of the setting. The drawing in this exhibit features the word 'IDEA'. Ideas are archetypes and materialize themselves in various ways to become objects. These objects become keys to achievable experience.
Limitations of a given format or space may sound restrictive however for a sculptor it is the realization of a parameter, like the edge of a canvas sets the confines for a painter. It is recognition of a space and how to epitomize his composition. Ancart's work is limitless in possibilities and daring in its bare-boned truth.
Harold Ancart holds a Master degree from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Visuel la Cambre, Brussels. In November his work will also be featured in a 2 persons show in Berlin at the Hunchentoot Gallerie.
