At the core of his exhibition is a room-in-a-room installation entitled 'Scene of night, constructed of wide paper rolls suspended from the ceiling to the floor and punctuated with a composite of variably shaped openings. Rather the recipient will be absorbed in a way similar to the process of osmosis via the cut-out paper rolls like a semi-permeable membrane, attracted by fragmented glimpses of cascading rows of colour inside.

Galerie Jette Rudolph is pleased to announce „It Happened Again” by Klaus-Martin Treder (* 1961 in Biberach/ Germany, lives & works in Berlin), his second solo show at the gallery.
At the core of his exhibition is a room-in-a-room installation entitled “Scene of night”, constructed of wide paper rolls suspended from the ceiling to the floor and punctuated with a composite of variably shaped openings. Because of the narrow passage it creates, it will be barely possible to circumnavigate the room. Rather the recipient will be absorbed in a way similar to the process of osmosis – the molecular exchange of potential differences in a cellular system – via the cut-out paper rolls like a semi-permeable membrane, attracted by fragmented glimpses of cascading rows of colour inside. Despite the fragility of the carrier medium the eye of the viewer is blocked by an iridescent but massive black-green two-dimensionality.
The centre of “Scene at night” invites a gradual pacing of its subtle colour nuances of dark blue, violet and green. This digitally generated scheme of shades, though pictorially legible, clearly suggests how little space for coincidence is left by the artist. The experience of the play between the face and the space within the alternating openings and its limits culminates in an object made of cardboard, staged in the heart of this installation. With its height of 3 meters and window-like views strictly geometrically performed, it continues the formal principles of these colour schemes.
Accompanying the central colour-room installation the exhibition will present new small, medium and large sized canvases by the artist, taking specifically into consideration: “Artists such as Klaus-Martin Treder […] have begun to consciously introduce the drip as a conceptual component of form, to simulate it, to take photographs of it, to excise it out of existing canvases, restoring it again as an element of collage on the canvas. All of a sudden, splashes are taking on a versatile role in the creative context […]. The artistic practice of the visual painting process, in particular the so-called spontaneous gesture, is thus redefined and treated with irony. […] These attempts are therefore possibly closer to the pop art painting of the likes of Roy Lichtenstein than they are to the likes of Jackson Pollock.” (Viola Weigel in: Morten Buch, Kunsthalle Wilhelmshaven, 2008)
