As an audiovisual festival Cimatics puts the focus both on art, media, design and music. A mix of concerts, film-screenings, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, public interventions and parties. For 10 days and nights it will be hosted by numerous venues, both underground and above. It intends to be a citywide international festival for advanced creativity, a node where underground, pop and art become mixed in an exciting cultural mash-up.
For this 7th edition of the Cimatics festival, we try to go at full throttle again with todays image
culture. As an audiovisual festival Cimatics puts the focus both on art, media, design and music.
We invite you for a mix of concerts, film-screenings, exhibitions, workshops, conferences, public
interventions and parties.
Cimatics is spread out all over the city of Brussels. For 10 days and nights it will be hosted by
numerous venues, both underground and above. It intends to be a citywide international festival
for advanced creativity, a node where underground, pop and art become mixed in an exciting
cultural mash-up.
Cimatics is an ongoing experiment. What was initially a festival for VJing, and soon after for live
audiovisual art, has now become an exercise and celebration focusing on 'advanced creativity'.
Todays urban and digital culture in all its diversity.
About Cimatics organisation:
Cimatics is a Brussels-based initiative with structural support from the Flemish authorities as an
organisation for 'audiovisual performance arts'. With this focus Cimatics is unique in Belgium, and
has built up a strong international reputation in this field.
Next to the organisation of Cimatics Festival, activities include the production support of
audiovisual creations (such as Ryoichi Kurokawa, Boris & Brecht Debackere, Arne Deforce & Utaka
Oya, Visual Kitchen), tourmanagement and bookings, the organisation of audiovisual events
(concerts, performances,...), workshops and guest-curations.
Cimatics is member of ICAS/ECAS (International Cities of Advanced Sound), the international
network of contemporary urban festivals such as Mutek (Montréal), Mutek Mexico, Club
Transmediale (Berlin), Todays Art (The Hague) or FutureEverything (Manchester).
The annual festival should be seen as a separate part of the organisation, with a much broader
focus on electronic and digital arts and culture in general. Cimatics Festival is a citywide event,
large-scale, low-budget and open for a broad and diverse audience, plunging into contemporary
image culture.
Saturday November 21 Festival Opening Night
Beursschouwburg, Brussels
speeding UP the FLU POWER FLU
You may expect the opening night of Cimatics festival 2009 to be a
kaleidoscopic experience. As
diverse as the festival is the opening night. The night starts early, at
sunset (16h48) to be precise
when we switch on the sped up version of Stefano Cagol's Flu Power Flu
installation. For Cimatics
festival opening night the neon letters will blink 5 times as fast as
normally.
Later that night AGF brings a very poetic downbeat performance from her
new album
Einzelkämpfer. And after that we roll into a musical and audiovisual party
with performances by
Ben Butler & Mousepad from Berlin and the Canadian TVestroy, an urban porn
performance by
the Strap-on didloS and the new laser installation Vector by Boris &
Brecht Debackere.
The night starts early but goes on late, closing down at the Flu Power Flu
with the whirl-winding
tunes from Baleine 3000 and Cimatics after-party at the infamous Box Club.
