comunicato stampa

From June 8th until September 15th 2002 Documenta11 will take place in several exhibition spaces in Kassel.
Projects and works of more than 100 international artists of every generation will be presented. The exhibition includes pieces of every type of media: sculpture and drawing, photography and architecture, film, video, sound- and internetworks, performance and concert.

Most of the works were specially created for Documenta11, and many of the artists are showing comprehensive and complex exhibits. These projects are often multimedial, and they combine various forms of presentation.

Over the period of 100 days, installations will become workshops, or be turned into offices, or stages for performances and locations of interaction. In addition there will be temporary projects including plays for the theater, concerts, or performances that will take place at arranged dates and times.

Finally, some artists and groups with works that generally have a communicative approach will hold public presentations and will directly involve the audience in this aspect of their work. These events are an essential part of the Documenta11 exhibition.

Artistic director of Documenta11: Okwui Enwezor.

Insistently transnational, interdisciplinary and transgenerational in its concerns, the broad artistic and critical scope of Documenta11 was devised by Enwezor and his team of six co-curators, Carlos Basualdo, Ute Meta Bauer, Susanne Ghez, Sarat Maharaj, Mark Nash, and Octavio Zaya, who were introduced to the public on October 12, 2000.
