Fall Out
Malmo Konsthall, Malmo
What happens when the systems we are dependent upon fall out? This question is the theme of Fall Out, a collaboration between Gl Holtegaard, and Malmo Konsthall. In their works the participating artists examine what happens when the social, political and economic systems we rely on break down, spin out of control or mutate. Works at the exhibition include an installation by Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, photographs by Sophie Calle and a slide installation by Simon Starling.

What does it look like when systems change? This question is the theme of the winter’s major exhibition FALL OUT at Gl Holtegaard. In their works the participating artists examine how social, political economic systems work – and what happens when systems change. When there is a ‘fall out’ as regards what is expected.
FALL OUT presents works by a star-studded cast of international artists that are rarely on show in Denmark. Works at the exhibition include an installation by Janet Cardiff & George Bures Miller, photographs by Sophie Calle and a slide installation by Simon Starling, all of whose works deal with interruptions to a daily order. At the same time, the exhibition is presenting for the first time in Denmark a number of internationally known names such as Sharon Hayes and Olivia Plender.
At a time when such crucial systems as the economy and climate are under pressure, individual experience will be vital for our way of understanding things. By means of their works, the artists at FALL OUT stress our human dependence on structures and systems – whilst also making a critical comment on the myth of the independence of modern man.
FALL OUT is a collaboration between Gl Holtegaard and Malmö Konsthall.
The two art galleries each show a part of the exhibition.

In connection with the opening of the exhibition, the reader FALL OUT will be published. In text and image, FALL OUT discusses how system collapses are reflected in art. It contains essays by Jacob Fabricius, Mads Damsbo & Merete Jankowski, Ole Thyssen and WHW (What, How & for Whom) and interviews with the participating artists.
The exhibition is supported by A.P. Mortensen og Hustrus Legat, Konsul George Jorck og Hustru Emma Jorck's Fond, Overretssagfører L. Zeuthens Mindelegat, and the Danish Arts Council.
