Two exhibitions
Museum of Contemporary Art, Roskilde
The Archive opens with the exhibition Cinemagic Tour & Crystal Palace by the artist Elsebeth Jorgensen. The exhibition consists of two installations / spatial montages, in which artist through photography, film, text and sound creates new narratives by means of a combination of historical documents, own photographic documentation and personal or literary narrative. The exhibition 'Gestures' takes its point of departure in the collection and archive of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark. The collection consists of a smaller number of art works and a large number of documents and archive records such as performance documentary, multiples and other items.
Archive, Elsebeth Jorgensen, Cinemagic Tour & Crystal Palace
The Archive is the Museum of Contemporary Art's new exhibition platform showing archive exhibitions, as well as artists whose artistic work is based on archives. The Archive opens with the exhibition Cinemagic Tour & Crystal Palace by the artist Elsebeth Jørgensen. The exhibition consists of two installations / spatial montages, in which Jørgensen through photography, film, text and sound creates new narratives by means of a combination of historical documents, own photographic documentation and personal or literary narrative.
The installation Cinemagic Tour # III: Selected Documents, 2005-2009 is based on Elsebeth Jørgensen's research around shut down cinemas in Germany, Finland, Denmark and Scotland. Among them, the local cinema in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, where the artist lived in 2005-2006. Crystal Palace # II: Notes from the Archive, 2009 has been developed from Elsebeth Jørgensen's research on the Carlsberg Breweries' private industrial archives. The work includes her own photo documentation of greenhouses and botanical sites on the abandoned brewery's ground in Copenhagen 2009. The installation examines in an associative manner change and historiography through a particular location and its connections to other places. Jørgensen questions how the meanings of locations are documented, maintained and changed through the archives and in literature. She points to the archive as the construction of both a collective memory and the personal narrative.

Gestures – Performance and Sound Art
The exhibition Gestures takes its point of departure in the collection and archive of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Roskilde, Denmark. The collection consists of a smaller number of art works and a large number of documents and archive records such as performance documentary, multiples and other items. The exhibition Gestures is a research based exhibition that investigates the relation between work of art and documentation. It will partly show historical examples of performance based work and its presentation and show contemporary performance works. The exhibition will investigate the relation between work and documentation as well as asking the question, how to collect performances in a museum setting and as an archival practice and thus preserve this part of a vital history of performance art. The exhibition will focus on performance practices in the visual arts and beyond, including regular performances, video performances, theatrical performances, sound pieces and sound performances and artists working with concert formats. Gestures will include works and documentation by contemporary artists as well as a few historical works from the museum collection and loans from other collections. Works of art and documentation will continuously be replaced by new works, and performances will take place frequently.
