The Museum of the City of Mexico has developed a program outside of
its walls. In its efforts to unite contemporary art with other social
expressions of the city it has invited the Canadian artist Terence
Gower to create - "Pasaje Iturbide", a project which takes on the
relationship between two types of exhibition: that of commercial
products in store windows and that of art works in museums and
galleries. The Pasaje Iturbide is without doubt one of the most
interesting sites in the Historical Center of Mexico City.
The exhibition consists of installations by 9 artists and 5 writers whose
work investigates distinct aspects of commercialism (merchandising,
advertising, product display.) Each participant will create an installation
playing with the context of the Pasaje Iturbide. Some artists will use
the principal corridor of the passage, while others will experiment with
the show windows and products of the stores. Other installations will
be created in the museum showcases of the Museum of the City of
Mexico with reference to the projects in the Pasaje Iturbide.
Curated by Terence Gower, "Pasaje Iturbide" includes the following
