comunicato stampa

CAB is a private contemporary art centre that will open on April 21. The Centre is dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art through the collection and organisation of exhibitions and residencies in its stunning gallery space in Brussels. The goal of the CAB is to actively participate in the diffusion and exchange of Belgian and international contemporary art.

The CAB is a non-profit association: its sole objective is to promote the sharing of art, in order to offer the public the opportunity to experience art works in a dedicated space. Its mission is to support artists while offering them higher visibility to the public, in a venue that is neither an institution nor a gallery.

The planning of future projects and exhibitions is decided by a think tank that meets several times a year in order to achieve the best representation of Belgian as well as international artists, working in all mediums. The CAB’s exhibitions will demonstrate its commitment to the artists whose work is presented in the Centre, and these artists will also become eligible for subsequent residency projects.

Twice a year, the Centre will invite a guest curator from a Belgian or international museum or gallery to create exhibitions; One show will feature Belgian and international works from private collections, gathered along a common theme, with commentary provided by the curator, while the other will feature provocative works by artists from diverse cultures, allowing the artists to present a wide range of themes, influences, and messages in works that have not previously been seen in Belgium. With these shows, the C.A.B. aims to inspire dialogue, and energise and inform the public.

The CAB exhibition space and offices are located in a 1930s Art Deco-style warehouse, which was originally built for the coal mining industry. Located near the Etangs d’Ixelles, the 800m2 building has been completely renovated and transformed into a clean open space that is dedicated solely to art, and which provides true flexibility and modularity amidst the building’s authentic architecture.

CAB supports emerging contemporary artistic creation by organizing residences of national and international artists.
Invited to stay for 3 to 5 months, the residents will be accompanied in their research process to realize a project related to the local context. At the end of their stay, an exhibition will take place in the space.
The CAB also establishes collaborations with artistic groups in order to enable the production of new works and present the residents work through exhibitions, workshops, or conferences.
The CAB residency will be realized with the support of private donors.
