Luisa Lambri

The first UK solo exhibition of new and recent work by Luisa Lambri, one of the stars of last year's Venice Biennale and currently one of the most exciting artists on the international scene.

Luisa Lambri makes photographs and videos in Modernist buildings when no one else is there.
'I depict places as if they were inhabitable, revealing their intimate and emotional dimension .. I see architecture as autobiography, the places photographed as self-portraits. I'm not interested in documenting the architectural qualities of a building .. the architectural qualities are present as an open and unsolved question, a way to introduce a fictional narrative.' Luisa Lambri was one of the star turns of last year's Venice Biennale. She lives and works in Milan. This, her first solo exhibition in the UK, brings together work from Mies van der Rohe's Villa Tugendhat, and buildings in Italy, Lithuania and Japan. 'I take photographs in a rather traditional way .. but their visual quality is somehow evocative of the electronic age. The immaterial state of the light and its perception may recall the electronically generated space, an architecture based on relationships between abstract elements.'
