The Print Show

For three weeks the gallery at Kettle's Yard will double up as a print studio and exhibition space. Visitors will be able to explore a feast of artists' prints, see how they are made, try their hand at printmaking, and buy original works of art with interest free loans.

This exhibition of contemporary prints made at three master print studios in and around Cambridge will highlight the strength and variety of printmaking in this area. The Curwen Studio, the Print Studio and St Barnabas Press will exhibit works by Basil Beattie, John Bellany, Peter Blake, Prunella Clough, Alan Davie, Patrick Heron, John Maclean, Victor Pasmore, Bryan Pearce, Eduardo Paolozzi, Paula Rego, alongside younger artists such as Jane Dixon, David Rayson, Alison Wilding and many others.

For over 30 years Cambridge has been a centre of excellence and innovation in printmaking, attracting artists from around the world. Each studio has its own area of expertise - lithography at The Curwen Studio, screenprinting at The Print Studio, while St Barnabas Press offers open studio facilities to artists working locally. At the same time, these three studios share an experimental approach that is also centred on the collaboration between artist and printmaker; through this kind of exchange of ideas and expertise, as this exhibition demonstrates, there are infinite possible ways to make a print.

Marion Coutts
Mountain

Marion Coutts was the Kettle's Yard and St John's College Artist Fellow for the academic year 2003-04.

In a new black and white video piece, Mountain, she depicts the daily ritual of laying the formal lunch table in St John's. The film presents an epic yetr routine endeavour - meticulous, spectacular, laborious, funny. By mirroring the repeated actions, Coutts draws attention to the elaborate
choreography played out each day between people, furniture and architectural space.

A pair of photo-engraved prints, made in collaboration with Kip Gresham at the Print Studio and James Hill at St Barnabas Presz, have been made to accompany the piece.

A catalogue is available.
