II edition

From 19 to 24 October 2005, the second KunstFilmBiennale will take place in Cologne – a one-of-a-kind mix between exhibition and film festival presenting works that straddle the worlds of visual art and film.

International Competition
Some sixty films by well-known, unknown and famous artists from all over the world, including Tracey Emin, Matthew Barney, Bruce Conner, Sarah Morris, Sam Taylor-Wood, Tunga, Straub/Huillet and many more.

Promotional Award for Experimental Film
Fifty top works, out of the three hundred submitted by young German filmmakers, will vie for the 25,000 Euro prize sponsored by VG Bild-Kunst and dedicated to promoting innovative film formats and content.

Mediterranean and Middle East
Cathérine David from France, director of Documenta X, curates a selection of Arab and Iranian art films, screened at Kunst-Station Sankt Peter.

Fluxus in the Rhineland
In co-operation with the German broadcast and TV station Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR) and Museum Ludwig, Cologne, a programme has been compiled of rare films by Fluxus artists and about Fluxus happenings in the sixties.

Jochen Kuhn Retrospective
With his talent and wit, Jochen Kuhn, who was born in Hamburg but now teaches in Ludwigsburg, has been collecting prestigious international prizes for the last quarter century. His short and feature films are cryptic total works of art made up of drawings, music and text, and revealing a finely tuned sensitivity for the unplumbed depths behind the façade of everyday life.

Focus on South America
Five programmes comprising art films from South America that have never or rarely been shown in Germany, compiled by Brazilian curator and producer Solange Farkas. From experimental film, to dance and video art, to political manifesto.

Carte Blanche: Jürgen Klauke
The Cologne graphic artist and photographer presents feature films by directors ranging from Russ Meyer to Mel Brooks which have made a lasting impact on his artistic universe with its sexuality, aggression and laconic humour.

An event of the SK Stiftung Kultur of Sparkasse KölnBonn and the City of Cologne, in co-operation with the Imhoff Stiftung and the Kunststiftung NRW
