Where is the Work?

Pump House Gallery is pleased to present Where is The Work? the first solo exhibition of Cornford & Cross in a London public gallery. Matthew Cornford and David Cross have worked together since meeting at St Martins School of Art in 1987. Where is the Work? is the culmination of the artists' architectural and sculptural interventions in the public realm and brings together a selection of temporary, site specific projects made visible as large-scale photographs.

Often working with experts from other fields including science, economics, software engineering and town planning, each of Cornford & Cross' projects are radically different, in both form and intention. The work shown includes Utopia, which involved meticulously renovating a derelict pond at Bournville and working with the chief food scientist to dye the water 'Cadbury' purple, and 10, a beauty contest in which participants' faces were compared to an 'ideal of symmetry and proportion' and judged by facial recognition software.

Where is the Work? will also feature some of the artists' unrealised projects and work in progress, including Words are not Enough, that will see them transform an abandoned nuclear bunker in Camberwell, South London into a temporary peace garden as part of Architecture Week 2007.
