The last week of September will see the start of the Jazz International Rotterdam festival as part of the Rotterdam 2001 year. The festival’s artistic director is Rotterdam trumpet player Eric Vloeimans, whose CD Bitches and Fairy Tales was awarded an Edison Award in 1999.

festival as part of the Rotterdam 2001 year. The festival’s artistic director is
Rotterdam trumpet player Eric Vloeimans, whose CD Bitches and Fairy Tales was
awarded an Edison Award in 1999.
Eric Vloeimans has invited musicians with whom he feels a close musical connection,
including pianist John Taylor (also on Bitches and Fairytales), cello player Ernst
Reijseger, accordion player Stian Carstensen, trombonist Ray Anderson, Jasper van
’t Hof, Available Jelly and the Willem Breuker Kollektief. Eric Vloeimans himself will
perform with a special quartet consisting of French guitarist Nguyên Lê, Swedish
bass player Lars Danielsson and Finnish drummer Markku Ounaskari.
‘Rotterdam’ is
represented by the Jazzerall formation. The final will be held in the Willem Burger Zaal
in De Doelen, in which various musicians will make a guest appearance with the
Metropole Orkest, conducted by Vince Mendoza.
