comunicato stampa

For the 15th time the Kunstmuseum Bonn hosts the exhibition presenting the nominees of the Dorothea von Stetten Kunstpreis. The Dorothea von Stetten Kunstpreis is endowed with €10,000 and addresses young artists, i.e. artists who are less than 36 years of age and have not gained much international recognition yet. The award can therefore be seen as a sponsorship award which aims at supporting young and unknown artists rather than artists who have already achieved fame.

The sponsorship focuses on two central aspects: On the one hand the artists shall be given the possibility of presenting their works in an internationally operating museum and thus introduce them to a larger public. On the other hand the advertised prize sum shall enable the winner, who is determined by the jury on the day prior to the exhibition opening, to develope their work further for a certain period of time without any financial pressure.

The winners of the last years and decades are: Sigrun Jakubaschke (1984), Klaus vom Bruch (1986), Jochen Fischer (1988), Barbara Hée (1990), Berend Strik (1992), Thomas Florschuetz (1994), Gregor Schneider (1996), Tamara Grčić (1998), Johannes Kahrs (2000), Nicole Wermers (2002), Yael Bartana (2004), Yves Mettler (2006), Kristoffer Akselbo (2008) and Tina Schulz (2010) – all these artists were able, also due to the sponsorship, to successfully establish their position on the art market.

The jury consisted of: Valeska von Rosen (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Gregor Jansen (Kunsthalle Düsseldorf), Thomas Florschütz (Künstler, Berlin), Berthold Pott (collector and gallery owner, Cologne), Carl Friedrich Schröer (journalist, Düsseldorf).

The nominees are: Laura Bielau (*1981, lives in Leipzig), Katinka Bock (*1976, lives in Berlin and Paris), Nina Canell (*1979, lives in Berlin), Erika Hock (* 1981, lives in Düsseldorf and Gent) und Kathrin Sonntag ( *1981, lives in Berlin).

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue (15 Euros) with essays by Stephan Berg, Melanie Bono, Ulrike Groos, Markus Heinzelmann, Annegret Laabs and René Zechlin.
