Pictures for the American People
The most comprehensive exhibition ever assembled of the art of America's most popular artist, illustrator and
icon-maker, this exhibition features works spanning more than sixty years of the artist's career, including more than
seventy oil paintings and all 322 covers for The Saturday Evening Post. Timed to the turn of the century, the
exhibition shows how Rockwell helped to bridge the old and the new in American life; the ways in which he promoted
patriotism; the means with which he faced the controversial social and political issues of his day; and the manner in
which his seemingly effortless images were in fact the result of a detailed and demanding working method. Norman
Rockwell: Pictures for the American People is co-organized by the High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA and The
Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge, MA. This exhibition is made possible by Ford Motor Company. The
exhibition and its accompanying catalogue are made possible by the Henry Luce Foundation. Additional support is
provided by the Curtis Publishing Company.
