Gerard Petremand

Donzevansaanen Gallery, Lausanne

Electric Fields, photographies. On the occasion of his exhibition at donzevansaanen gallery, Gerard Petremand presents two brand-new series of photographs which are ludic and complementary by their themes and colours: one – Electric fields (2004) – represents landscapes tinted with chlorophyl combining bucolic alpine poetry and mechanical tension, the other – Firemen (2001) – shows bright red urban scenes where characters more look like playmobils than rescuers. The photograph masters the art of putting the viewer in the scale uncertainty and to seduce him with attractive colours.

Electric Fields, photographies

On the occasion of his exhibition at donzévansaanen gallery, Gérard Pétremand (born in 1939 in Geneva, where he lives and works) presents two brand-new series of photographs which are ludic and complementary by their themes and colours : one – Electric fields (2004) – represents landscapes tinted with chlorophyl combining bucolic alpine poetry and mechanical tension, the other – Firemen (2001) – shows bright red urban scenes where characters more look like playmobils than rescuers. The photograph masters the art of putting the viewer in the scale uncertainty and to seduce him with attractive colours.
In his work entitled ' Electric fields ', Gérard Pétremand once again depicts in an unexpected manner the confrontation between nature and constructions and, to do so, takes us onto ski-fields when springtime is bursting forth. Abandoned in the middle of the grasses, the ski-lifts necessary to winter leisure activities lose their raison d'être and start to look like strange merry-go-rounds.
Wheels, pylons, ladders and cables tell of vain ascensions in indifferent countryside that apparently remains unchanged. Do we not see in the background the green fir-trees, the chalets, the cows and the spring flowers that have always been there? And yet, by playfully capturing these unidentified objects, Gérard Pétremand reveals how they have actually taken over the scene and are charged with electric energy: they crackle, twist towards the sky and radiate the countryside with their magical light.
