Chimera. Schar's intricate gem assemblages represent his exploration of form and representation using an idiosyncratic potion of heated glue and semi-precious stones and gems, a gesture of the artist's self-definition. Conventionally noted as paintings, these compositions reflect his heartfelt sentiments for the subjects, which include primarily living creatures, natural landscapes and figures.

comunicato stampa

NEW YORK, NY – August 23, 2004 – Broadway Gallery (473 Broadway, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10013) is pleased to announce the September 17th (6-8PM) opening of Ilya Schar's first solo New York exhibit entitled Chimera. Scheduled to run from September 17th to 30th, the collection will feature a selection of his awe-inspiring gem paintings.

The appropriation of materials traditionally used in the crafts of jewelry-making add a new meaning to the idea of fine art.

Born in Moscow, capital of the former Soviet Union, Schar began his fascination with precious gems and minerals in early childhood and throughout his adolescence. What began as a hobby turned into passion, as well as a unique artistic quest. He explored a broad spectrum of color and light and fine-tuned the true potential of using gems as a medium of representation. Schar currently lives in Beverly Hills, California and his works can be seen on http://www.ilyaschar.com.

Available at over 2,000 US and international locations, NY Arts Magazine is distributed to galleries, museums, bookstores, universities, foundations and patrons. For more information, please call us at (212) 274-8993
