NEW YORK, NY – August 23, 2004 – Broadway Gallery (473 Broadway, 7th Floor,
New York, NY 10013) is pleased to announce the September 17th (6-8PM) opening
of Ilya Schar's first solo New York exhibit entitled Chimera. Scheduled to run
from September 17th to 30th, the collection will feature a selection of his
awe-inspiring gem paintings.
Schar's intricate gem assemblages represent his exploration of form and

stones and gems, a gesture of the artist's self-definition. Conventionally noted as
paintings, these compositions reflect his heartfelt sentiments for the

The appropriation of materials traditionally used in the crafts of
jewelry-making add a new meaning to the idea of fine art.
Born in Moscow, capital of the former Soviet Union, Schar began his
fascination with precious gems and minerals in early childhood and throughout his
adolescence. What began as a hobby turned into passion, as well as a unique
artistic quest. He explored a broad spectrum of color and light and fine-tuned the
true potential of using gems as a medium of representation. Schar currently
