The Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art opens August 25, in the presence of the participating artists. Founded in year 2001 it now presents its fourth edition and offers an exiting start on the autumn’s cultural season. Twenty eight artists and artist groups from different parts of the world participate in the exhibition which will spread to five different venues around the city of Göteborg.

During the opening at Röda Sten you have the possibility to meet the artists, see performances and experience a pulsating event. All venues will be open the whole day. For more information about the program, please visit the website of the biennial.

The 4th edition of the Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art wish to encourage reflection on the condition of the political and the meaning of dissent in a time characterised by the dominance of a globalized market. A time in which our lives and our understanding of the world are strongly affected by a continuous state of war, often presented to us as a clash between traditionalist Islamic fundamentalism and modern liberal democracy.

The exhibition takes us on a journey where different aspects of our global condition are highlighted and analysed. The artists will help us to give form to important questions and encourage us to think beyond our doorstep, reflect on our time and what happens in the world around us.

The biennial’s Satellites offer an exciting complement to the main exhibition. Locally based artists, curators and galleries have been offered to produce their own exhibitions and events in dialogue with the biennial, by using a common theoretical platform as a point of departure.
