Programma internazionale di residenza per artisti Diogene_bivaccourbano

UN PROGETTO DI ARTISTI PER ARTISTI
La residenza Bivaccourbano si pone all’interno del panorama di residenze internazionali con l’intenzione di abitare e lavorare sfruttando gli spazi interstiziali della città. Come i bivacchi montani – adattandosi alla morfologia dei luoghi – usano le forme preesistenti fornite dai ripari naturali, Diogene_bivaccourbano prende forma usufruendo dei vuoti tra il costruito e il disabitato, tra l’interno e l’esterno.
Il bivacco urbano diventa una sorta di botte di Diogene, nella quale l’abbandono di tutto ciò che è superfluo lascia spazio alla pratica dell’ascolto e della riflessione partecipata tra artisti.

FINALITA’ E OBIETTIVI
Il progetto Diogene_bivaccourbano intende favorire lo scambio e la mobilità degli artisti, riducendo le strutture dedicate a tale scopo a pochi elementi essenziali, individuando e avvalendosi della rete preesistente di servizi pubblici che caratterizza un particolare ambito urbano, al fine di limitare i costi e convogliare le risorse nella realizzazione di una struttura abitativa essenziale, evitando la costruzione e la gestione di sistemi permanenti complessi.
L’intenzione è di attivare un programma di residenza internazionale sfruttando le risorse che già esistono nelle città; creare la possibilità di contatti e scambi tra artisti, pubblico, curatori, critici e operatori culturali che gravitano nella zona torinese; approfondire la conoscenza delle realtà istituzionali del territorio piemontese e costruire un dialogo.

Il programma Diogene_bivaccourbano potrà ospitare da uno a tre partecipanti che verranno selezionati da una commissione formata dagli artisti componenti il gruppo Diogene. Il periodo di residenza avrà una durata massima da tre a nove settimane. L’organizzazione offrirà ai partecipanti tutto il supporto logistico ed economico necessario per la realizzazione del proprio progetto e lavorerà alla creazione di una rete di relazioni con le istituzioni e i soggetti dell’arte contemporanea del territorio.
Gli artisti invitati, durante la permanenza in città, risiederanno all’interno del bivacco (Tram) progettato e costruito dal gruppo Diogene e avranno a disposizione un kit che garantirà l’autosufficienza del modulo abitativo (un pannello fotovoltaico a 12 volt, una stufa e un fornello a gas, un wc portatile), una mappa della città con le indicazioni dei servizi esistenti.

BANDO DI RESIDENZA “DIOGENE_bivaccourbano” 5° edizione - 2011
Gli artisti del gruppo DIOGENE bandiscono il concorso internazionale per la residenza “Diogene_bivaccourbano 2011”. Il concorso, aperto a tutti gli artisti italiani e stranieri, si propone di attivare, attraverso un periodo di residenza a Torino, una modalità inedita di approfondimento sull’operare artistico e sul ruolo dell’artista nella società, con l’intento di recuperare un dialogo tra artisti volto a focalizzare l’attenzione sulla comprensione profonda della poetica del lavoro.
Il progetto di Residenza “Diogene_bivaccourbano” nasce da un gruppo di artisti che hanno avviato un percorso di riflessione e confronto sul ruolo dell’artista e sull’arte intesa come forma di conoscenza. In quest’ottica i componenti del gruppo hanno deciso di mettere se stessi a disposizione di altri artisti per attivare una collaborazione condivisa e partecipata.

Art 1 – Requisiti
Il concorso è aperto a tutti gli artisti operanti nel settore specifico delle arti visive, senza restrizioni di genere o tecnica.
Art 2 – Il luogo di Residenza
Uno degli elementi che più caratterizzano il programma “Diogene_bivaccourbano” è il luogo inconsueto di residenza; l’artista selezionato sarà infatti ospitato all’interno della carrozza dismessa di un tram, posizionato in una rotonda stradale della città di Torino. Il tram , ristrutturato ed allestito dai componenti del gruppo Diogene, diventerà luogo di vita e lavoro per l’artista selezionato, permettendogli di sperimentare una particolare modalità di interazione con l’ambiente urbano e la sua comunità.
Art 3 – Periodo della residenza e Sito
La residenza avrà luogo a Torino nel periodo compreso tra il 1 settembre e il 20 ottobre 2011 e potrà avere una durata minima di quattro settimane e massima di otto settimane consecutive.
Art 4 – Eventi
Durante il periodo di residenza sarà organizzata una serie di incontri di approfondimento durante i quali l’artista avrà la possibilità di presentare il proprio percorso di ricerca e illustrare il progetto realizzato durante la residenza. Si prevede anche un momento di Open Studio in cui l’artista si renderà disponibile al confronto con il pubblico in visita.
Art 5 – Budget
Gettone presenza: 2.000 euro 
Copertura spese: 2.000 euro ( fino a ) – sostegno economico per la produzione del progetto da sviluppare durante la residenza
250 euro a settimana – copertura delle spese di vitto (fino a 1.500 euro)

Art 6 – Documentazione richiesta
a. CURRICULUM contenente: nome, cognome, indirizzo, e-mail, telefono, studi compiuti, attività svolte in campo artistico (non più di 2000 battute).
b. Inviare un unico file formato .PDF contenente testi e immagini, riferiti ad un massimo di 15 opere realizzate, riportando indicazioni quali il titolo, data, materiali utilizzati, dimensioni e una breve descrizione dell’opera (massimo 300 battute per immagine). Massimo 4 video in formato DVD o avi.
c. STATEMENT (non più di 2000 battute)

Art 8 – La Giuria
I progetti pervenuti saranno valutati da una Giuria composta dagli artisti del gruppo Diogene. I nominativi dei vincitori del concorso verranno resi noti entro il 20 giugno 2010, tramite comunicazione diretta agli interessati e mediante pubblicazione dei risultati sul sito Internet. International artists residency program Diogene_urbanbivouac

The project Residence Urbanbivouac is part of a broad panorama of international residency programs that have a precise intention: to take advantage of interstitial spaces in the city for living and working. To do this the Diogene_urbanbivouac has been created. Like the bivouacs used by mountaineers, which take advantage of existing natural shelters, the Diogene_urbanbivouac is designed fit into and take advantage of unused urban spaces. It can be put up between buildings, fit into unused interiors or be built outdoors in public and private spaces. The bivouac is a sort of Barrel like the one Diogenes lived in that has been emptied of the superficial in order to create a space conducive to the practice of listening and sharing artistic reflection.
The Diogene_urbanbivouac project intends to promote artists exchange and mobility, cutting down the structures number for this purpose to a few basic elements, using the network of existing public services that characterizes a particular urban space with the aim of reducing costs and allocating funds to realize an essential living structure, avoiding the construction and management of complex permanent systems.
Together with the residence program the Diogene group intends to create paper and online archives.
The project of residence, since its birth, has been supported by an analysis of the territory.
With these assumptions, the intention is to activate a program of international residence using the existing adaptable resources in the city; to create the possibility of direct contacts and exchanges between artists, experts, critics and cultural operators who work and live in the Turin area.

CALL FOR ARTISTS Diogene_ urbanbivouac 5th edition - 2011

The Diogene group of artists is promoting the international competition “Diogene_urbanbivouac”, open to Italian and foreign artists. The residency proposes a brand new approach to art. The residency also intends to stimulate dialogue among artists, with the focus on in-depth comprehension of the poetic artistic work.
The “Diogene_urbanbivouac” Residence project is the result of a joint effort by a group of artists.
They share their ideas concerning the relationship between art and society, the role of the artist, and art as a form of knowledge. They also make themselves available to other artists, thus activating a shared collaboration with them.

Art. 1 – Requirements
The competition is open to all artists currently working in the specific sector of visual arts, without restrictions of approach or medium.

Art. 2 – Place of Residence
The “Diogene_urbanbivouac” program is characterized by the peculiar location of the residence. The artist selected will in fact be hosted in a old carriage, the Bivouac, from the city’s public transports agency, located in a green roundabout in Turin. The Bivouac, restored by Diogene’s members, is assembled from left over materials and is equipped with a survival kit in order to become the artist’s living and working environment. The arrangement allows the artist to experience a new and powerful interaction between the urban environment and its community.

Art. 3 – Site, Length and Period of Stay
The residence will be hosted by the city of Torino between September 1st and October 20th 2011, for a period of 4 to 8 weeks according to the needs of the selected artist.
Art. 4 – Events
During the residence period the Diogene group will organize meetings with critics, researchers and others involved in contemporary art, giving the artist in residence the chance to present his or her works as well as the project(s) developed in Turin.
There will be one or more days in which the artist opens the studio to the general public who can meet and talk with him.

Art. 5 – Budget (payed by Diogene Association)
Stipend for the artist: 2.000 euros
Expenses:
2.000 euros (maximum) – Production expenses for a project or projects to be developed during the residency.
250 euros/week – living expenses (maximum 1.500 euros total).
Travel expenses support.

Art. 6 – Requested Documents
a. artistic CURRICULUM with name, surname, address, e-mail, telephone, studies, and artistic works (up to 2000 characters).
b. a PDF file with IMAGES and texts of the artist’s works (up to 15) including title, date, medium, dimensions and a brief description (no more than 300 characters for each image).
Up to 4 video files in .AVI format may be submitted.
c. STATEMENT of the artist’s work (up to 2000 characters)
d. The MOTIVATION for applying to the “Diogene_urbanbivouac” program (up to 2000 characters)
e. A PROJECT that the candidate intends to develop during his/her stay.
f. A COPY of a valid ID.

Incomplete applications will not be taken into account. The documents sent will not be returned and will be collected in the Diogene Association archives.

Art 7 – Deadline
The application deadline is May 16, 2011

Art 8 – Jury
The project proposals will be evaluated by a jury composed of artists from the Association’s management Committee. The winners will be announced by June 20, 2010. The results will be posted on www.diogenebivaccourbano.it and the winners will be contacted directly. Adherence to the competition constitutes agreement with its rules and conditions.
