A call for offers for a research artist to work within a ACTH, research group as part of its third academic cycle.
The ENSBA, Lyon, in collaboration with the CETHA and the EHESS, Paris, are making a call for offers for a research artist to work within a ACTH (Contemporary Art and Time of History) research group as part of its third academic cycle. The chosen researcher will be registered with the ENSBA Lyon as a student in third academic cycle for one year with a research grant of 2,400 Euros.
The scholarship can be renewed after the first year for a maximum of two more years on both directors' approval.

The recruitment of ACTH research unit members is set up by concourse. It addresses any artist holder of a master degree who wishes to contribute on his own authorship to a collective research. The candidates are invited to send a personal file to ENSBA Lyon (deadline: 30 November 2012). The jury's choice will rely on this letter, which may display and explain the artistic approach of the candidate and his theoretical conceptions. Selected candidates then may attend an interview with the jury from ENSBA Lyon (12 December 2012).
The jury is composed of ENSBA Lyon head director, the responsible of higher education, both research directors of ACTH unit plus one theorist and one artist member from the unit.
Dossiers submission not later than 30 November 2012.
The research activity of ACTH at ENSBA Lyon is intended for artists who already achieved their master degree, and for reasons related to their own author work, wish to get involved in an individual and collective research—including the way to divulge it. This can only happen through the pooling resources of each artist and theorist's own research field. Primary importance in the group is given to each one's approach, its openness and to experimentation and critical debate. One of the group's main concerns is the relevance and active role concealed by the research objects themselves. ACTH unit dos not aim at setting up any global theory of art. It aims more at a very close and deep look to a range of specific objects, that is to say their articulation and inscription within a specific culture.
The duration covered by this postgraduate degree is mainly based on the progresses made by individual and collective research. In the frame managed by ENSBA Lyon, the research is set up for a three year period, but the research unit and its directors can adapt modalities and timing of the program according to its results.
For this postgraduate degree, ENSBA Lyon wishes to promote the frame of the oral defense discussion by the end of the research, as for the PhD thesis final jury. The defense may be ruled by at least one of the two directors of ACTH unit. This thesis work may derive from the artist's own research. He may also seek the most appropriate form in order to inform the art and research community about the work made. He may eventually testify of a certain collectivity of his research experience.
