Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) is pleased to announce that applications for Fall 2013 admission to our MFA programs are now available online. Syracuse University's MFA programs offer an intimate and rigorous interdisciplinary graduate program emphasizing development of the professional, technical, and conceptual skills necessary to participate in the contemporary art world. As a student in our program, you will be immersed in an animated and creative intellectual environment designed to produce artists with an original and sophisticated aesthetic. VPA is ranked in the top 45 fine arts schools by the 2012 U.S. News and World Report, with four programs ranked in the top 20 of their specialty group: ceramics, transmedia (in multimedia/visual communications), printmaking, and sculpture. We also offer outstanding programs in art photography, art video, computer art, film, illustration, jewelry and metalsmithing, and painting as well as a as MA programs in art education and museum studies. The university has invested significant resources to make tuition more affordable. Graduate students in the college benefit from substantial financial assistance. Admitted MFA applicants generally receive 13,000 USD or more in scholarships, bringing average student tuition costs to less than 10,000 USD a year. In addition to these awards, students may also apply for teaching assistantships and fellowships. Graduate students have access to extensive studio facilities, state of the art equipment, on- and off- campus exhibition venues, and an internationally recognized faculty. We offer students the opportunity to explore their areas of interest while also taking advantage of rich and diverse educational opportunities facilitated by our placement within a world-class university setting. A robust visiting artist program allows students to engage with artists and scholars like Collier Schorr, Sue Williams, Zadie Smith, Chris Johanson, Leigh Ledare, Sue Coe, Peter Galassi, Bill Viola, Kelly Reichardt, Sina Najafi, Robert Storr, Bruce Mau, Diana Al-Hadid, Jason Fulford, Rem Koolhaas, Rigo 23, Pae White, Eric Fischl, David Salle, Paul Schimmel, Todd Solondz, Alec Soth, Futurefarmers, and Zoe Strauss. MFA students have the opportunity to visit and participate in exhibitions at a number of internationally recognized venues including the Everson Museum, Light Work, The Warehouse Gallery, SUArt Galleries, and the Urban Video Project. The MFA thesis show has traveled to New York City and to the Los Angeles area. Students also benefit from numerous off-campus programs including courses in Prague, Berlin, London, New York City, and Los Angeles, as well as the opportunity to study in the University's other outstanding schools and colleges.
