Dissemination of free and lively thought
The Fondation Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean is pleased to invite you to
the second session in its series of discussions 'Conversations', a project
of its prefiguration programme.
Those taking part in this second get-together are Wim Delvoye, Michel Onfray
and Dolorès Oscari. They will examine the role of teachers and artists in
education and in the application and dissemination of free and lively
thought.
Funny, provocative, often working on the principle of opposites, artist Wim
Delvoye's work subscribes to a certain Belgian tradition. Under an
apparently playful exterior his work bears the deep imprint of reflection on
the human condition and vanity. The body is the subject of numerous projects
where Delvoye flirts with the mundane and with so-called 'low' culture, with
the juxtaposition of opposites, poles apart as much in their appearance as
in their content and interpretation.
Doctor of Philosophy and author, Michel Onfray taught the final years in a
Technical High School in Caen from 1983 to 2002 when he resigned to set up a
free college, or rather establish a People's University. He has published
some twenty works putting forward the theory of hedonism, exploring issues
as: to what extent the body is, philosophically speaking, the object of
preference' How do artists think' How can morality be applied to aesthetics'
In an entire society dominated by Apollo where does Dionysus fit in' What is
the relationship between moral hedonism and political anarchy' The answers
given assume the straying of the wayward body, libertarian morality, sensual
materialism, jubilant utilitarianism, theoretical aesthetics, claimed
subjectivity.
Dolorès Oscari is from the world of theatre. She wings from out of the
ordinary to extraordinary experiences, from Brussels to Havana. In 1990 a
change of direction took her to 'Première', one of RTBF's radio stations,
presenting a daily chat show called 'Rencontre' (Encounter). Since the
spring of 1998 she is the designer, editor and also presents RTBF's
television literary magazine 'Si j'ose écrire' (Dare I write).
'Conversation 02' will be held on Thursday 6th February 2003 at 7pm in the
Maison Schoetter belonging to Banque Générale du Luxembourg (entrance on the
corner of Boulevard Royal and rue Notre-Dame, Luxembourg).
Conversation 02 will be held in French.
