comunicato stampa

You are invited to the Open Studio weekend on 26-28 March, with a special preview night on Thursday 25 March and a screening of Priya Sen's work on Saturday 26 March. The Open Studio weekend is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the working processes of three international contemporary artists, see work in progress and discuss their approach and ideas.

Cristóbal Lehyt (Chile), Priya Sen (India) and Alberto Tadiello (Italy) have spent three months at Gasworks, working alongside London based artists. Concluding their residencies, the artists will open their studios to the public.

Cristóbal Lehyt works with various media to examine the ways in which politics affects and manipulates cultural and subjective identity. He often reworks collective symbols such as tourist souvenirs, folklore, landscapes and craft objects related to a specific place, class structure or a period in history.

Priya Sen uses moving image to link fragmented writings, sounds and snapshots. Struggling to make sense of the fast changing cityscapes, the artist engages with the particularities of a given place and explores the possibilities of collective production of knowledge.

Alberto Tadiello's installations challenge the boundaries between seemingly disconnected materials, disciplines and phenomena. In many cases his works are ephemeral, resting formant or ocurring in latent states waiting to be activated.

Screening Saturday 27 March, 3-4.30pm
Priya Sen presents a selection of her video works, followed by a conversation with the artist.
