The Mattress Factory and Pittsburgh New
Music Ensemble (PNME) present a series of free Thursday sneak
previews of PNME's world premiere compositions in conjunction with
guided tours of the Mattress Factory's blockbuster exhibition, James
Turrell: Into the Light.
Enjoy instrument demo sessions with PNME musicians-in-residence,
guided tours of the museum's James Turrell exhibition, cocktails,
related talks, and a Q&A in the Mattress Factory's Garden.
Lights, Sights and Sounds
Two Thursdays from 5-7 p.m. with the Mattress Factory and PNME:
July 11: The Creative Process in New Music and Installation Art
Featuring an introduction by Mattress Factory Curator Michael Olijnyk
and PNME Artistic Director Kevin Noe.
August 8: The Art of Lighting Design
Featuring an introductory talk by the PNME's Lighting Designer.
In addition, the museum is collaborating with PNME to host a Family
Workshop: Sound and Light in Art on Saturday, August 10 from 1-3 p.m.
This free workshop, presented at the Mattress Factory, will feature
PNME musicians-in-residence, interactive tours and activities that
explore the relationship of light, music and art.
The PNME is also offering Mattress Factory members free admission to
one of their five concerts at the Hazlett Theatre on Pittsburgh's

The Mattress Factory's free parking lot is located at 505 Jacksonia
Street and specializes in installation art. It is open Tuesday
through Friday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sunday
1.-5 p.m. The Mattress Factory is currently showing the blockbuster
exhibition, James Turrell: Into the Light.
