The exhibition presents three dimensional wall sculptures by Liu Wentao and the floor sculpture chit.chat by Jurgen Mayer H. It reflects the western-Asian basic conflict between linear strategy on the one hand and a multiple perspective on the other. The works of both artists are based in the history of Concrete Abstraction as well as in the Hard-Edge Painting of the 60's and Minimal Art.
The exhibition presents three dimensional wall sculptures by Liu Wentao and the floor sculpture chit.chat by Jürgen Mayer H. The exhibition reflects the western-Asian basic conflict between linear strategy on the one hand and a multiple perspective on the other. Whereas chit.chat as a sculpture of utility, which functions as a seating furniture is striving from a centre outwards in different directions, Liu creates a centre, which he dissolves through the surface of his works at the same time. Hundreds of thousands of graphite lines are drawn over the canvas and allow thousands of different angles of view.
The works of both artists are based in the history of Concrete Abstraction as well as in the Hard-Edge Painting of the 60's and Minimal Art. Certainly Liu's sculptures also derive from Chinese Zen as the idea of a pathless pathway which is leading through a doorless gate.
Liu Wentao was born in 1973, he studied at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China and at the University of Massachusetts, USA. Liu lives and works as an artist in Beijing.
Jürgen Mayer H. was born in 1965, he studied at the University Stuttgart as well as at the Princeton University and The Cooper Union, USA. Mayer H. lives and works as an
