The Kravets/Wehby Gallery is pleased to announce Gathering Together a group exhibition of new work by Asad Faulwell, Yuliya Lanina, Ebony Patterson and Felandus Thames opening on Thursday, June 3 and running through July 8, 2010.
Gathering Together is the assemblance of emerging artists working in the medium of collage while also touching on societal issues. The artists use diverse materials yet share common themes in their work. Asad Faulwell's intricate works draw you in with their bold colors and exquisite detail while addressing social and political issues in the Middle East.
Yuliya Lanina's whimsical animation juxtaposes ideas of fantasy and sexuality. Her creatures have an innocent sensibility while participating in perverse actions. With a commanding presence, Ebony Patterson's captivating portraits are majestic and powerful. The work questions perceptions of beauty and also the sexual stereotypes of Jamaican culture. Felandus Thames explores the historical impact of acceptance and rejection of racial stereotypes.
