Collage, Installation, Sculpture, Video
With the exhibition VERWOHNUNG - a double solo show, Liviu Dalateanu and Jay Gard occupy the gallery spaces with a large number of sculptures, creating a spacial situation to resemble the character of a furniture store. Between abstract and concrete forms, with and without function, these standardized pieces of 'furniture' in chipboard amplify the ideas of the individual artistic approaches and challenge them at the same time.
With his geometric, formalistic sculptures, Liviu Dalateanu questions fundamental aspects relating to the materials used, the spacial qualities evoked and the observer's perspective. The utilization of industrially manufactured materials such as plywood or fiberboard dynamically correlates with the use of minimal, absurd 'attributes' such as traces of paint or formal divides.
Jay Gard develops his large-size laminated laser-print collages in elementary forms from varying contexts, such as minute, electronic components or buildings from the 1920s or 1930s. Most recent works cite architectural forms of Chemnitz façades in extraordinary perspectives as utopian models for design and construction.
