comunicato stampa

In the framework of the 4th European Month of Photography Berlin uqbar project space presents the current project of swiss artist Maja Weyermann (* in Huttwil, Switzerland, lives and works in Berlin). Real–Time–Nomads takes us on a journey along the cultural diversity of European big cities like Berlin, reflecting on the multi-dimensional spaces in which we move. The interdisciplinary project joins together an exhibition of photographic prints with a city walk that includes sound collages and video works.

On show at uqbar is an installation with photographic prints showing spaces the artist reconstructed in 3-D. The images are based on interviews the artist conducted with Berlin shop owners of different cultural backgrounds. They were asked about the spaces of their childhood. The medium of 3-D simulation allows for the creation of virtual space rooted in private memory. This process will make these realms, in which perception and imagination are merged, accessible to others. Thus, the possibilities of communication and the boundaries of intercultural understanding are explored in the act of (re)producing space.

In addition a city walk links the exhibition space with the shops in the city and invites. The public is invited to visit also the workplaces of Weyermann’s interview partners where she shows video portraits of the repective interview. The videos combine childhood memories, extracts from the interviews and everyday scenes.
Visitors can use their mobile telephones to listen to short sound collages to lead them through the various locations along the city walk. The sound collages and shop addresses are available at http://www.real-time-nomads.com and +49 345 48 34 15 323

Further venues include Collegium Hungaricum Berlin and Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.). Both institutions present selected video portraits and inform about the city walks.

Parallel to the exhibition, a series of events includes artists talks and guided tours:
