Imari Suganuma presents the Tsubaki Dance
Project.
Through contemporary dance, a group of young Japanese designers get
together to unite art and design from Japan and England. Each designer will be
involved in their field of speciality and produce costume design, graphic design,
and web design, from one original concept. Dancers from New York and Tokyo
will also be collaborating with dancers in London.
We have chosen an art gallery as the venue, rather than a theatre, in order to get a
larger audience from all the different fields.
Theme
Tsubaki (Camellia) is associated in Japan with words such as short-lived, unlucky, and
beheading due to the fact that the whole flower drops to the ground. This project will
bring together the braveness of women and associate it with a Tsubaki. Unlike men,
women put in 100% for love, even putting aside their profession. And once the love is
over they put that 100% in their occupation. Once the love is over, she feels no
attachment to that love or him. These women are spectacular and brave. Just like the
Tsubaki, she lets go of the past to go further on the next step.
