Artists Collaborate with Top Shoe Designers
to Launch Bergdorf Goodman's New Shoe Salon
and to Benefit the New Museum of Contemporary Art
After Party Presented by Chambers Hotel
(New York, August 12, 2002) - A collection of shoes created by artists
collaborating with top shoe designers will be unveiled at a benefit party
for the New Museum of Contemporary Art on Wednesday, September 25, 2002.
The
New Group, the New Museum of Contemporary Art's under-40 membership
category, will host the benefit evening, Art + Sole, which will begin with
cocktails at Bergdorf Goodman to celebrate their expanded shoe salon and the
specially created shoes.
The first opportunity to purchase these
extraordinary creations, in editions of 20 each, will be at the party to
benefit the New Museum. The shoes will be available for purchase to the
general public in the shoe salon beginning September 26. An after party
will be held at Chambers Hotel, 15 West 56th Street.
The artist/designer teams who have generously agreed to create the limited
edition shoes are:
Damien Hirst and Manolo Blahnik
Liza Lou and Diana Broussard
Rachel Feinstein and Edmundo Castillo
Laurie Simmons and Bernard Figueroa
Konstantin and Christian Louboutin
Jeff Koons and Andrea Pfister
Adelle Lutz and Walter Steiger
Koons and Pfister have created a leather boot with a woven leather overlay,
topped with an inflatable cuff. Konstantin and Louboutin fashioned an
open-toe mule adorned with Konstantin's famous alter ego Mrs. Tependris. Lou
and Broussard reinvented the cashmere sock demi-boot with an intricate bead
design, and Lutz and Steiger's version of the "ponyboot" comes complete with
a horse tail.
Anne McNally, Carlos Mota and Nell Campbell are Art + Sole's co-chairs, and
many notable names from the contemporary art and fashion worlds form the
Benefit Committee. Included on the committee are Sally and Rufus Albemarle,
Alba and Francesco Clemente, Amy Fine Collins, Diane von Furstenberg and
Barry Diller, Marjorie Gubelmann, Kim Heirston, Patricia Herrera, Isaac
Mizrahi, Helen and Tim Schifter, Elizabeth Saltzman, Yvonne Force Villareal,
and Beth Rudin De Woody.
An after party with food, drinks and dancing will follow at Chambers Hotel,
15 W 56th Street. The upscale "downtown" style hotel is filled with over
500 works of original art by emerging artists.
Tickets for Art + Sole are $150 and can be ordered through Livet Reichard
Company, Inc. at (212) 344-8420. All proceeds from the event and the sale of
the shoes will benefit the New Museum of Contemporary Art.
