I'm Into You Now. The exhibition spans from mural prints of McCarty's 1980 stage-set designs for Swiss punk bands such as Lilliput and Mother's Ruin; her dirty word heat transfer on canvas paintings; McCarty's famed large-scale drawings of teen-age woman murderers and selections from more recent multi-figure drawings dealing with primates and religion.

80WSE is proud to present the first major survey of Marlene McCarty’s work. Curated by Michael Cohen, this exhibit will span from mural prints of McCarty’s 1980 stage-set designs for Swiss punk bands such as Lilliput and Mother’s Ruin; her dirty word heat transfer on canvas paintings; McCarty’s famed large-scale drawings of teen-age woman murderers; and selections from more recent multi-figure drawings dealing with primates and religion.
The survey seeks to make connections between McCarty’s conceptual work and Gran Fury actions and the subversive poly-sexuality and probing social questioning of her later oeuvre

As part of Marlene McCarty's first 30 year survey, 80wse will present her earliest works in its windows spaces; large-scale reproductions of installations and performance backdrops for European punk rock and new wave bands, circa 1980. The large-scale tableaux's pre-figure and provide a fresh context for McCarty's more famous monumental figurative drawings.
