Pur spaziando dal video alla fotografia, dal collage alla scultura, il lavoro di J. Parker Valentine e' fortemente legato al disegno. Tutta la sua produzione e' connessa alle qualita' intrinseche del segno, all'immediatezza del gesto, alla ricerca di una tensione che trova nel disegno il punto di incontro e di passaggio da un linguaggio all'altro.

Mercoledì 15 dicembre 2010 Peep-Hole presenta la prima mostra in Italia di J. Parker Valentine.
Pur spaziando dal video alla fotografia, dal collage alla scultura, il lavoro di J. Parker Valentine è fortemente legato al disegno. Tutta la sua produzione è legata alle qualità intrinseche del segno, all’immediatezza del gesto, alla ricerca di una tensione che trova nel disegno il punto di incontro e di passaggio da un linguaggio all’altro.
L’astrazione non è semplicemente una cifra stilistica, va al di là della forma per diventare soggetto dell’opera e riflettere storie personali ed eredità artistiche e culturali.
La stratificazione dei segni e le tracce di cancellature nel lavoro di Parker Valentine generano una costante relazione tra figurazione e astrazione: da frammenti enigmatici di linee emergono così forme concrete. Trattando spesso l’immagine come un oggetto fisico, le sue opere si collocano al confine tra il bidimensionale e il tridimensionale, creando un'instabilità che mette in discussione i limiti e le possibilità dell'astrazione contemporanea.
Procedendo per connessioni visive, attraverso un processo di addizione e sottrazione, Parker Valentine fa dell’opera il luogo in cui la sua percezione e quella dello spettatore si incontrano e si fondono.
Nata a Austin, Texas nel 1980, J. Parker Valentine vive e lavora a New York e Austin.
Tra le mostre personali ricordiamo le recenti presso Supportico Lopez di Berlino (in corso), Taka Ishii Gallery di Kyoto (2010) e Lisa Cooley Gallery di New York (2010, 2008). Wednesday December 15, 2010 Peep-Hole presents the first solo show in Italy by American artist J. Parker Valentine.
Although J. Parker Valentine uses varied visual means including film, photography, collage and sculpture, her central medium and the core of all her practice is drawing. The artist’s entire production is linked to the intrinsic qualities of the sign, the immediacy of gesture, and a tension created by the joining of and passage from one language to another. Abstraction thus exists not simply as a stylistic code, but goes beyond mere form to become the subject of the work, reflecting personal histories and both artistic and cultural inheritances.
The stratification of signs and the traces of erasures in her work generate an ongoing relation between figuration and abstraction: from enigmatic fragments of lines concrete forms emerge. By often treating the picture plane as a physical object, her work straddles the boundary between the bidimensional and the tridimensional, creating an instability that questions the limits and possibilities of contemporary abstraction.
Through a process of addition and subtraction and a movement between visual connections, Parker Valentine creates work as a site to where her perception and the viewer’s meet and may coalesce.
J. Parker Valentine was born in 1980 in Austin, Texas. She lives and works in New York and Austin. Her recent solo shows took place at Supportico Lopez in Berlin (ongoing), Taka Ishii Gallery in Kyoto (2010) and Lisa Cooley Gallery in New York (2010, 2008).
