The Red October space displayes 30 world-best galleries of contemporary art. Cosmoscow is a new large-scale project aimed at both foreign and Russian audiences. The project was designed to form a bridge between Russian artists, art collectors and gallery owners and exhibitors, and the international contemporary art market. Best galleries from UK, Germany, Netherlands, USA and Russia will take part.
December, 17th, is the opening day of the COSMOSCOW art show which will last three days. During this time the Red October space will be displaying 30 world-best galleries of contemporary art. Today it is not only the artists who are involved in the constant search of new artistic forms, but also those who bring contemporary art to the art market. At the last Phillips de Pury auction in New York some works of contemporary art collected by the superintendent specially for sale were presented. Such an unusual approach to the organization of the auction led to record sales. In Moscow, a city known for its hectic throb of life comparable to that of New York, London and Tokyo, the traditional art fair gives way to a totally new format — the art show.
Margarita Pushkina’s company (headed by a contemporary art collector and art historian) is the organizer of the COSMOSCOW art show. The gallery owners Volker Diehl and Vladimir Ovcharenko, being experienced professionals with a record of numerous international fairs, act as main consultants on the project.
COSMOSCOW is a new large-scale project aimed at both foreign and Russian audiences. The project was designed to form a bridge between Russian artists, art collectors and gallery owners and exhibitors, and the international contemporary art market. Best galleries from UK, Germany, Netherlands, USA and Russia will take part in COSMOSCOW.
The COSMOSCOW project’s format is close to an art show in terms of short duration, the dimension of presenting the best of what world contemporary art has got, a busy schedule of events and meetings, the concentration of efforts and means applied and the intense rhythm of life. The setting for the show will be the huge rapidly developing cluster of Red October, which has housed exhibitions of the 3rd Moscow Biennale of Contemporary art and BAIBAKOV art projects for the last two years. Along with noncommercial projects, exhibits from Larry Gagosyan’s gallery collection have been presented here. Today we are proud to say that Russian contemporary art has made its way into the global artistic context. That’s why the COSMOSCOW project will present works by Russian artists on the same basis as contemporary art from other countries.
COSMOSCOW is aimed at broadening the range of best foreign galleries (and most prominent contemporary artists accordingly) represented in Russia. Russian art collectors will get the opportunity of closely examining new art trends that are being formed in the field of contemporary art, they will get acquainted with works by famous masters, assess the creative potential of the young, not yet publicized artists who will probably be first violins in the future, see those who give the mankind a new vision of things, the world and art. And what is most important, they will be able to find the very pieces which reflect their tastes and preferences. Foreign gallery owners and exhibitors will get the chance to look at the Moscow art stage from inside, through an insider’s eyes, visit artists’ studios and get acquainted with Russian art collectors, experts, young artists, thus entering the space of Moscow artistic life.
Each gallery will have an equal share of square meters to place its exhibition. Each participant will be offered a full set of services: packing, stand decoration, hanging, transportation, customs clearance assistance, participation in the catalogue and bright events of the show.
The COSMOSCOW inauguration ceremony is planned for December, 17th, 2010. A three-day holiday at Red October is not a final event to end up the expiring year, it was conceived as an impressive start into the new year of life of Russian contemporary art.
