In occasione di Learning Machines. Art Education and alternative production of knowledge, progetto a cura di Marco Scotini in collaborazione con Alessandro Guerriero, Radical Intention in collaborazione con il curatore Valerio Del Baglivo e gli artisti Angelo Sarleti e Iacopo Seri presenta il primo atto del progetto “Becoming rather than being – acts of self-education”. BRTB considera la pratica artistica come un’azione che genera un costante rinnovamento e arricchimento del proprio sé, attraverso l’applicazione di una perenne condizione di auto-apprendimento.

Come finissage della mostra, Radical Intention organizzerà una discussione intorno all’argomento dell’auto-apprendimento insieme ai due fondatori di due free school, a cui seguirà il giorno seguente, un workshop con gli studenti per mettere in pratica le teorie apprese.

Talk - possono i processi di auto-apprendimento realmente sostituire le accademie?

Dopo il successo internazionale del progetto The Public School ed il suo disseminamento in tutto il mondo, un nuovo modello è nato The Pickpocket Almanack. Possono realmente questi modelli di franchise educativo essere considerati una controparte alle scuole accademiche? Ne parleranno insieme Joseph Del Pesco fondatore del progetto Pickpocket Almanack e Constance Barrère Dangleterre e Sonia Dermience membri del collettivo Komplot che è responsabile del funzionamento di The Public School Bruxelles.

worskshop - Educar Apriendendo

Il giorno seguente con l’aiuto degli artisti Angelo Sarleti e Iacopo Seri Radical Intention cercherà di mettere in pratica alcune delle nozioni acquisite durante il talk del giorno prima, in un workshop tutto particolare che prende il titolo da un celebre motto Zapatista: “educare apprendendo”. Attraverso un gioco collettivo si testeranno alcuni dei principi che sono alla base dell’auto-apprendimento e dei modelli scolastici alternativi. Ai partecipanti verrà chiesto di condividere le proprie conoscenze con l’intento pratico di ricreare un provvisorio – ma funzionante – sistema formativo. Con Educar Apriendendo, Radical Intention vuole affermare come anche il processo di apprendimento possa esser trasformato in un processo collettivo auto-gestito ed auto-organizzato.

Valerio Del Baglivo
Curatore indipendente basato tra Milano e Stoccolma, è interessante in pratiche dialogiche e comunità al fine di creare spazi di partecipazione per mettere in discussione l'idea di paternità. Lui gira le sue ricerche in giro per l'esistenza di zone di solidarietà all'interno del mondo dell'arte, e curatoriali intorno a pratiche artistiche collegati con la nozione di cultura libera, in giro per auto-definizione e almeno intorno all'idea di revoca come forma di protesta contro il professionista contesto dell'arte.

Joseph Del Pesco
Curatore indipendente, giornalista d'arte e collaboratore perenne. Mentre ha organizzato progetti e mostre per musei ha anche erogato borse di studio per gli artisti a livello internazionale, ha presentato i programmi video in case private, distribuite posters e altri attraverso canali informali, e prodotto di contenuti per internet. Attualmente lavora come curatrice presso Kadist Fondazione San Francisco. www.delpesco.com

Komplot
Creato a Bruxelles nel 2002, Komplot è un collettivo curatoriale che si occupa delle pratiche nomadi e creative, le tendenze di specializzazione, di architetture di sopravvivenza e l'infiltrazione del privato, spazi pubblici e istituzionali. Il nomadismo di Komplot come piattaforma di composizione variabile permette di esplorare nuovi terreni in relazione ad oggetti, spazi, artisti e il pubblico. Komplot indaga il concetto di autorialità collettiva. www.kmplt.be

Iacopo Seri
Iacopo Seri è nato ad Arezzo nel 1983, e cresciuto nei boschi. Nella scuola elementare voleva diventare uno scienziato; tutta scuole superiori i suoi voti in matematica e scienze sono sempre stati molto bassi. Lui, ovviamente, è laureato in Arti Visive presso lo IUAV di Venezia. Vive a Torino ed è un artista, e non è del tutto impossibile credere che un giorno egli possa diventare uno scienziato. http://iacoposeri.tumblr.com/

Angelo Sarleti
Nato nel 1979, si diploma in pittura presso l'Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Ha seguito seminari condotti da Meschac Gaba e Diego Perrone. Ha esposto in numerose mostre collettive sia in Italia che all'estero, e nel 2006 tiene la sua prima mostra personale a Milano, Artra, seguita da una seconda mostra personale nel 2009. Nel 2006 ha vinto una borsa di studio presso la Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art residenti al il Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges des Récollets di Parigi. Utilizzando diverse tecniche che vanno dal video alla pittura, le sue opere si ispira alla realtà e cerca di rappresentare la natura frammentaria delle dinamiche contemporanee, nei loro aspetti locali e globali. Come primo passo, la sua opera ha offerto una riflessione sulla video sorveglianza e voyeurismo, guardando gli esempi di "rubato" momenti di vita, legando per unire "l'autenticità della pittura" di un déshabillé e la costruzione sociale dell'immagine, nel suo più lavori più recenti, l'attenzione è la possibilità di procedure estetiche più specificamente appartenenti al linguaggio delle arti visive, da lui stesso si confronta con le idee alla base della grafica della serie formale, tipica di discipline come l'economia, la politica, o le statistiche. L'intenzione alla base di tutti i lavori di Sarleti, è quello di utilizzare la sensibilità e mezzi interni di storia dell'arte, per affrontare temi di attualità.

Becoming rather than being – acts of self-education

During the show "Learning Machines. Art Education and alternative production of knowledge", curated by Marco Scotini in collaboration with Alesssandro Guerriero, Radical Intention and curator Valerio Del Baglivo, as well as artists Iacopo Seri and Angelo Sarleti, present “Becoming rather than being – acts of self-education”. The project will consider the artistic practice as an action that generates a constant renewal and enrichment of the self through the application of an endless condition of self-education. BRTB will be developed through a series of public events: practical examples of free educational projects and free schools, and invitations for artists to present their works in various formats, such as exhibitions, lessons, talks, workshops.

As a finissage of the exhibition, Radical Intention will organize the first event of the project: a discussion around the topic of self-education, followed by a four-hour workshop with students that will put theory into practice. “Becoming rather than being – acts of self-education” will be settled up into the exhibition space.

Can the accademic way of learning be substituted by self-education processes?

After the “The Public School” and “The Pickpocket Almanack” became exportable formats, they are now disseminated throughout North America and Europe. Can these two franchising models represent a counterpart to academic schools? Valerio Del Baglivo enhances a discussion with Joseph Del Pesco founder of the Pickpocket Almanack and Constance Barrère Dangleterre and Sonia Dermience members of Komplot which are responsible for the project The Public School in the city of Bruxelles.

Workshop – Educar Apriendendo

In collaboration with artists Angelo Sarleti and Iacopo Seri, Radical Intention seeks to put into practice some of the concepts acquired during the talk. The workshop’s title is inspired by a famous Zapatista motto: "educating while learning". Through a collective game some of the principles that underlie self-learning models and alternative schools will be tested. Participants will be asked to share their knowledge with the practical purpose of recreating a temporary - but functional - educational system. With Educar Apriendendo Radical Intention wants to investigate how the act of learning can be transformed into a collective self-administered and self-organized process.

Valerio Del Baglivo
Independent curator based between Milan and Stockholm, he is interesting in dialogical and community practices in order to create spaces of participation for questioning the idea of authorship. He revolves his researches around the existence of solidarity zones inside the art world, around artistic and curatorial practices linked with the notion of free culture, around self-definition and at least around the idea of withdrawing as a form of protest against the art professional context.

Joseph Del Pesco
Independent curator, art journalist, and perennial collaborator. While he's organized projects and exhibitions for museums internationally, he has also disbursed artist grants, presented video programs in private homes, distributed posters and other ephemera through informal channels, and produced content for the internet. He currently works as curator at Kadist Foundation San Francisco. www.delpesco.com

Komplot
Created in Brussels in 2002, Komplot is a curatorial collective concerned with nomadic creative practices, trends of specialization, survival architectures and the infiltration of private, public and institutional space. The nomadism of Komplot as a platform of variable composition allows it to explore new terrain in relation to objects, spaces, artists and the public. Iacopo Seri
Iacopo Seri was born in Arezzo in 1983, and grew up in the woods.In elementary school he wanted to become a scientist; throughout high school his grades in math and science were always very low. He obviously obtained a degree in Visual Arts at the Iuav in Venice. He lives in Turin and is an artist, and it is not entirely impossible to believe that one day he will become a scientist. http://iacoposeri.tumblr.com/

Angelo Sarleti
Born in 1979, he graduated in painting at the Arts Academy in Florence. He followed workshops conducted by Meschac Gaba and Diego Perrone. He has exhibited in several group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, and in 2006 held his first solo show at Milan Artra, followed by a second solo show in 2009. In 2006 he won a scholarship at the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art-resident at the Centre International d'Accueil et d'Echanges des Récollets in Paris. By using different techniques ranging from video to painting, his works is inspired by reality and seeks to represent the fragmented nature of contemporary dynamics, in their local and global aspects. As a first step, his artwork offered a reflection on video surveillance and voyeurism, looking at examples of “stolen” moments of life, tying to combine " the authenticity of painting" of a dishabille and the social construction of the image; in his more recent work, attention is given to aesthetic procedures more specifically belonging to the language of visual arts, by confronts himself with the ideas behind the formal graphic series, typical of disciplines such as economics, politics, or statistics. The intention underlying all the work of Sarleti, is to use sensitivity and internal means of art history, to address topical issues.
