The exhibition 'The Missing Part' has been conceived in close co-operation with Deacon. It is also the first retrospective delving into the artist's 40 years of making art, comprised of 40 sculptures a well as approximately 120 drawings, prints and photographs. From the early 1980s, Deacon attracted attention on the new English sculpture scene as someone with an innovative approach to materials such as paper, resin, plastic, glass, leather and fabric.
This exhibition is a co-production with the Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art of the city of Strasbourg.
Richard Deacon is a Welsh artist (b. 1949) who is considered to be one of the leading sculptors working today. He received considerable attention early in his career as the creator of innovative shapes, as the maker of a visual universe celebrating the motion inherent in organic life forms.

From the early 1980s, Richard Deacon attracted attention on the new English sculpture scene as someone with an innovative approach to materials such as paper, resin, plastic, glass, leather and fabric. He referred to himself as a “fabricator”. His sculptures hide none of the technical processes involved in their realization, with ample traces of assembly, riveting, twisted, elongated, folded and binding.
A catalogue will appear parallel to the exhibition with text in German, French and English. It will contain articles by art critics who have written about Richard Deacon's work over the years, providing insights into his artistic accomplishments, all of the works in the show as well as a number of texts written by Richard Deacon himself.
This exhibition is a co-production with the Museum for Modern and Contemporary Art of the city of Strasbourg, where it will be on view from 5 June - 19 September.
