Private View Sunday 20th October 3 Â 6pm
Seam is a small group of artists coming together for the first time,
presenting lively and diverse paintings and sculptures.
The philosophical strands of individual artists fuse, not only through
common intent when investigating layers of memory and time, but also unite
through a joy of working with natural materials, wood, fibre, oil paint,
canvas and found objects weathered by the elements.
The individual pieces of work in this exuberant exhibition have been chosen
to reflect a counterbalance of harmony, vulnerability, robustness and
colour.
Alexandra Harley makes abstract wood sculptures that are carved
constructions with a variety of rich textures. She uses the natural colour
and grain of the wood to enhance the shape of each piece. Jenny Lock¹s
paintings deal with childhood experiences and memories, which are executed
through layers of text and visual information. Both Jacqueline Merry Bernard
and Elly Wright are inspired by their travels and the landscapes that they
encounter. Merry Bernard experiments with the idea of capturing the elusive
sense of transition and energy from the moment when the landscape touches
the eye whereas Elly Wright rather than giving a realistic rendering of a
particular place, what is on offer, are suggestions and opportunities for
the viewer¹s personal discovery and interpretation.
