Even Better Together, Gasworks' family learning programme, celebrates three years of art workshops with an exhibition of films, photographs and other artworks produced by local families.
The exhibition is curated by workshop participants, in collaboration with artists Albert Potrony and Howard Matthew. Transforming Gasworks' gallery space into the setting of an Even Better Together workshop, this exhibition aims to bring alive the experience of participating in these unique, playful and creative sessions. Exhibition visitors will have a chance to engage in activities exploring art works created by families.
Amongst the works on show will be a double screen film inspired by artist Mathieu Kleyebe Abonnenc, a 'wall of lies' created by Kennington Park Estate residents and films made on location in the lavender fields of Vauxhall Park and the courtyards of Bolney Meadow Estate.
Even Better Together is an ongoing programme of free art workshops for families living in Lambeth and the surrounding areas. Designed by artists, the workshop activities are inspired by exhibitions and residencies at Gasworks, offering an insight into contemporary art practice and giving local residents an opportunity to meet visiting artists from around the world. The series of participatory projects aims to encourage families to spend time together and draw from each others' viewpoints and experiences to explore, interpret and make art.
Since 2008 Gasworks has worked with over 450 families in collaboration with St John the Divine, St Marks, Herbert Morrison and Archbishop Sumner Primary Schools, Ethelred, Vauxhall and St Stephen's Children's Centres, Charles Edward Brooke School for Girls, ATD Fourth World, Fegan's Child and Family Care, Hyde South Bank Homes and Metropolitan Housing.
Even Better Together is funded by the BIG Lottery Fund.
