The Williams College Art Department and the Williams College Museum of Art
(WCMA) present Looking is Better than Feeling You, a fast-paced and
high-energy program that showcases women artists currently working in performance video.
Looking is Better than Feeling You was created by New York-based independent
film and video curator Astria Suparak for the opening nights of Ladyfest in
San Francisco and Washington D.C. The San Francisco Bay Guardian says, "This
irreverent, rebellious, and self-parodying film program takes on punk
rockers, politicians, parents, and posers who fake it like they mean it."
Included in Looking is Better than Feeling You are video and audio works by
Jaqueline Goss, Dara Greenwald, Colleen Hennessey, Miranda July, Eliete
Mejorado, Kristin J. Mohr & Kelly Hayes, Shannon Plumb, Jenny Stark, Kirsten
Stoltmann and Karen Yasinsky. Ms. Suparak will introduce the hour-long
program, and she will be available to answer questions following the
screening.
Twenty-four year-old Astria Suparak creates site-specific film and video
shows for art spaces, alternative theaters, and film festivals. She is
currently traveling across the Americas on her sixth tour in two years.
Looking is Better than Feeling You is presented in conjunction with Street
Show, an exhibition of recent performance video about urban experience, on
view through January 12, 2003 in Media Field, WCMA¹s gallery dedicated to
video and new media art. The Spencer Video Studio is located at 35 Driscoll
Hall Drive on the Williams College campus in Williamstown, MA.
The Williams College Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free and the
museum is wheelchair accessible. A portion of the museum¹s general operating
funds for this fiscal year has been provided through grants from the
Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
