Can art be political?

NBK Neuer Berliner Kunstverein, Berlin

The talk attempts to locate the possibilities of the political within the quadrangle of market versus museum, art world versus world art

sintesi del comunicato stampa

Which art can be political, and which not? And: how can art be political? What is the role of museums and public institutions on the one hand, and the art market with its galleries and collectors on the other? The art world seems divided into two groups: the art of the galleries and fairs and the art of biennials and curators. The discussion attempts to locate the possibilities of the political within the quadrangle of market versus museum, art world versus world art. Talk with Marion Ackermann (Director of Kunstsammlungen NRW, Dusseldorf), Karin Sander (artist and professor at ETH Zurich, living in Berlin), and Harald Welzer (professor of social psychology at the University of Witten/Herdecke, head of the Center for Interdisciplinary Memory Research at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities Essen (KWI), living in Hannover). Presentation: Stefan Heidenreich (arts and media scholar, living in Berlin/Zurich). In the image: Marina Naprushkina, Belarus segodnja, 2008. Video of the month.
