L'installazione invita ad interagire con il fluire del tempo lasciandosi sfiorare da grandi fotografie in movimento, dove riflettere su storie incontrate per caso ma anche sulla dissolvenza e il ritorno della vita.

La Fondazione VOLUME! presenta SANS FIN di Christian Boltanski.
Un mese prima della Biennale di Venezia 2011 dove rappresenterà la Francia, l’artista realizza un intervento inedito che imprime allo spazio un movimento continuo e come un vortice meccanico, espone tracce di memorie universali ed echi di dimensioni collettive e storie personali.
“In questo momento rifletto molto sulle cose che continuano: oggi c'è
una popolazione e tra vent’anni ce ne sarà un’altra. La vita riprende
sempre”. La casualità della nascita e del tempo storico dell’esistenza
conferiscono fragilità e allo stesso tempo mistero alle singole identità
le cui piccole memorie sono al centro dell’interesse di Christian Boltanski.
Gli archivi, le fotografie, gli abiti, il battito del cuore, negli anni hanno
rappresentato il tentativo di ricordare, di sfuggire all’hasard della morte ma anche d’interrogare la casualità della nascita. Perché io e non tu, perché ora e non dopo... domande che testimoniano il
desiderio di salvare il ricordo, conservare la vita e muovono tentativi
destinati a fermarsi davanti al tempo della Storia. Un’arte, tuttavia, che
solo apparentemente riflette la sconfitta perché, aldilà delle singole
storie, la vita riprende sempre.
L’installazione SANS FIN, pensata per la Fondazione VOLUME!, chiama ad entrare all’interno dell’opera e ad interagire con il fluire del tempo lasciandosi sfiorare da grandi fotografie in movimento, dove rintracciare similitudini e lontananze, riflettere su storie incontrate per caso ma anche sulla dissolvenza e il ritorno della vita.

One month before the 2011 Venice Biennial, during which the artist
will represent France, Boltanski will exhibit an original piece that
imprints onto the space a continuous movement, that as a mechanical
vortex, displays traces of memories and echoes of collective
dimensions and personal stories.
“At this moment I have been reflecting a lot on things that continue:
today there is a population and in twenty years there will be another.
Life always goes on.” The randomness of birth and historically, of
existence, confer fragility and at the same time mystery to individual
identities, whose memories are at the center of Christian Boltanski’s
interest. The archives, photographs, clothing, and heartbeat, during
the years have represented the attempt to record and escape death,
but also to examine the randomness of birth. Why me and not you,
why now and not later... These are questions that testify the desire to
save memory, preserve life, questions that prevent efforts that would
otherwise stagnate in the face of time. An art, that however only
seems to reflect defeat; because beyond these individual stories, life
always goes on.
The SANS FIN installation, conceived for Fondazione Volume, asks the
viewer to enter into the installation and to interact with the
movement of time, letting one graze over photographs in movement,
where one can find similarities and differences and reflect on stories
encountered by chance, and on the dissolution and the return of life.
CHRISTIAN BOLTANSKI
Christian Boltanski, a French artist among the most
represented in the international artistic sphere, was
born in Paris on September 6, 1944 and lives and
works in Malakoff - Île-de-France.
Sculptor, photographer, painter and filmmaker, he is a
member of Narrative Art, a movement that reclaims
the use of photography, and instructs at the National
Secondary School of Fine Arts in Paris.
This year, Boltanski was chosen as representative of
the French Pavillion at the 54th
Exposition of Art of the Venice Biennial, with a
project curated by Jean-Hubert Martin.
The principal themes of the work concern memory,
childhood, and suffering provoked by absence, a
theme for which the videos and photos are to be
considered as testimonials that enable those who
were absent to relive.

the german artist Anselm Kiefer.
