The Tolbooth, Stirling

An evening of ambient video and abstract animation that explores the relationship between sound and the moving image.

A film and video programme selected by Katy Dove in relation to her animation work and soundtracks. Alongside work by international contemporary artists and musicians including Katarina Löfström (Sweden), Mathilde Rosier (France) and Semiconductor (UK) is a unique British Film Institute programme of short works by pioneer of the genre, Oskar Fischinger. This hour-long programme includes works from 1928 - 1947 and will be screened from the only remaining 16mm film print in the UK.

A further British Film Institute 16mm film will be shown-'Permutations and Experiments in Motion Graphics' by John Whitney (USA, 1968). It includes a documentary explaining the artists' early experiments exploiting the potential of computer graphics and his theory of the relationship between visual image & sound. Katy Dove will also show a new computer animation made for the event.

This programme is brought to you as part of Ladies Rock, an exhibition by Katy Dove, Raydale Dower, Keith Farquhar and Mary Redmond at The Changing Room, Stirling's contemporary art space until 21 Dec. Gallery open Tuesday - Saturday 11am - 5pm. The exhibition is open until 6.30pm on the evening of the screening.
