Eleven is pleased to present Brit Pop featuring Peter Blake, Rob and Nick Carter, Natasha Law, Ben Turnbull, Dasiy de Villeneuve and Jonathan Yeo. Fifty years on from the explosion of the pop art movement, Eleven will be exhibiting new work by artists who have influenced and been influenced by pop art as they continue to challenge tradition through exploiting images of mass culture.

Peter Blake’s Star series depicts celebrity portraits at the height of their appeal. Incorporating iconic sex symbols from Elvis Presley to Kate Moss, each work is covered in diamond dust further remarking on the timeless celebrity of each figure.

Rob and Nick Carter’s Postcards from Vegas series presents blown up vintage postcards with curious neon additions. Their selected postcards encapsulate the pleasure of place while their explicit neon pairings nod at the sinister sides of urban life. Their hypnotic objects teeter between nostalgia for a pre-digital age and a luminescent craving for the contemporary.

Daisy de Villeneuve’s stylish’s illustrations have adorned t-shirts, shoeboxes, bags, homeware and packaging turning her fine art into emblems of mass produced enterprises. Not only representing aspects of popular culture, her quirky signature style has become a part of the very fabric of it.

Natasha Law’s bold colours and decisive lines outline Law’s snapshots of semi-nude figures. Fluctuating between specific details of the body and the whole figure, her work lingers between the abstract and the figurative, the intimate and the public. Using industrial paint, she applies layer upon layer as her vibrant colours and seductive figures intensify.

Ben Turnbull re-presents comic book idols from our youth as he meticulously constructs a portrait of a modern day hero from our childhood fictional ones. Turnbull provocatively uncovers who we idolise from an early age to adulthood, in fantasy and reality.

Jonathan Yeo is known for his distinguished portrait paintings of high-profile sitters from celebrities to dignitaries. Yeo’s painterly patches of colour have served as a point of departure for transforming his traditional portraits- trading brush strokes for erotic scraps of flesh from pornography magazines to craft his figures.

The private view is supported by Ruinart champagne.
