Jane and Louise Wilson

John Hansard Gallery, Southampton

A new body of artwork to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The exhibition includes large-scale photographic prints of the abandoned, and now almost uninhabited town of Pripyat, situated within the 30km wide Exclusion Zone around the site of the disaster.

comunicato stampa

Internationally acclaimed artists Jane and Louise Wilson make works that examine or expose the psychology and architecture of places, typically exploring relationships between people and architectural space - particularly spaces that are concealed, secret, inaccessible or somehow forgotten. Their practice is sympathetic to location and history yet draws on cinematic conventions and allusions to conjure a heightened, often uncanny atmosphere.

The Wilsons are creating a new body of artwork to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

This first public presentation of this work will take place at John Hansard Gallery and will include a series of large-scale photographic prints of the abandoned, and now almost entirely uninhabited town of Pripyat, situated within the 30km wide Exclusion Zone around the site of the disaster.
