comunicato stampa

Enacting a cycle that begins anew as soon as it ends, Wendell Gladstone's new series of paintings explore the circle of life, the blurry lines as to where it starts and finishes. He continues to speak in a visual language where disparate elements are woven together. Ideas in the work clash and meld, hard edge geometric elements and air brushed atmospheres interact with lushly rendered areas. With images of birth to her left and death to her right, Mother Nature becomes a fertile landscape. A couple embraces, while a train heads for wreckage, a marching band celebrates by a roadside tribute. The paintings have an eternal, cyclic nature, embracing themes of descension, momentousness and a search for meaning. All imagery points to the pull between good and evil, positive and negative, paradise and misery.

Wendell Gladstone lives and works in Los Angeles. Recently, he had a new monograph published titled D.O.A, S.O.S., ETC., which is a compilation of his recent work. The catalogue is available at the gallery
