comunicato stampa

Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is pleased to offer you this first overview of its 12th presentation, which will take place from September 8 to October 9. The exhibitions, publication, colloquium, and other activities will be organized around the theme Lucidity. Inward Views, proposed by guest curator Anne-Marie Ninacs. A highlight of Montreal’s autumn cultural season, the event’s 25 solo exhibitions and outdoor public interventions by artists from 17 countries including Canada, will transform the city in a vast and coherent exhibition. A number of works will be shown for the first time in Canada, among them original artworks created especially for the event.

EXHIBITIONS

Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal will present a special project bringing together 10 solo exhibitions by artists working in photography and media arts, which will be presented at the Arsenal, a brand-new space devoted to contemporary art situated in Griffintown. In addition to the Arsenal, Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is proud to be collaborating with 13 other exhibition spaces for the event: articule, Centre des arts actuels Skol, Dazibao en résidence à la Cinémathèque québécoise, Galerie B-312, Centre d’art et de diffusion CLARK, Galerie de l’UQAM, Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery – Concordia University, MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels), Maison de la culture Frontenac, Maison de la culture du Plateau-Mont-Royal, McCord Museum, Optica, un centre d’art contemporain, and SBC Gallery of Contemporary Art. Thanks to the generosity of our partners, all the exhibitions are offered free of charge.

EVENTS

The public festivities will begin on Thursday, September 8, with the event launch of the 12th presentation of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal. In addition, the pre-launch party on Wednesday, September 7, offers exclusive access to more than 250 works. Many artists, gallery owners, and art professionals will be in attendance at this gala. Buy your tickets early as places are limited. Also, don’t miss the first weekend of festivities (September 9, 10 and 11), during which there will be 15 openings most of which will take place in the presence of the artists. Finally, a “meet the artists” brunch will take place on Sunday, September 11, at the Arsenal. This event will include a guided tour hosted by the guest curator, Anne-Marie Ninacs and a panel discussion featuring many of the local and foreign artists. Complementing the exhibition program, Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is organizing an international colloquium on Lucidity. Inward Views. This day of lectures, held on Friday September 30 at the Paul-Desmarais Theatre in the Canadian Centre for Architecture, will feature artists, art historians, critics, and exhibition curators. The colloquium will be presented with simultaneous translation. New for this presentation, many of our special events will have paid admission. The cost of tickets will vary depending on the activity. Ticket prices, online ticketing and other related information will be available on our Web site beginning June 9: moisdelaphoto.com.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal will also offer educational programs inspired by the event’s theme. The interactive activities (guided tours, creative workshops, public discussions, and artists’ talks) will be addressed to both the general public and students. Registration fees will vary depending on the activity and the number of participants. Information and registration: moisdelaphoto.com.

PUBLICATION

Each presentation of the biennale is accompanied by a lushly illustrated publication. Much more than an exhibition catalogue, Lucidity. Inward Views features previously unpublished essays addressing the event’s theme as well as colour reproductions of the works featured in the exhibitions. This bilingual 300-page reference book will be available for $34.95 plus taxes in better bookstores and at a number of exhibition sites just prior to the event’s opening.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal is an international biennale that has been investigating issues relating to contemporary photography and other lens-based art, for more than 20 years. For each presentation of the event, a guest curator proposes a new and unique theme around which all of the exhibitions, a publication, and a colloquium are organized.
