Chorspiel and Sterescopic Scenography

Ulla von Brandenburg's film Chorspiel, a family drama in a musical format is encased by Malin Pettersson Oberg's scenography - a painted drapery shaped like a room of fabrics. The motif of the drapery relates to the imaginary and provisionary rooms that appear in the film and to its theme of seeing, perspective and observation.
As part of Bonniers Konsthall's five-year celebration we present an exhibition series of site-specific installations in the Spetsen gallery, our most unique and challenging exhibition space at the point of the building.
This autumn we invite for a revisit Ulla von Brandenburg (Germany, 1974) who attracted much attention already in 2007 when she participated in Bonniers Konsthall's big group show Against Time with a monumental wall painting that transformed the exhibition room into a theatre space. Since then, her work has been shown in numerous international exhibitions, among others the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009. Malin Pettersson Öberg (Sweden 1979), is also making a reappearance at Bonniers Konsthall. She first met Ulla von Brandenburg assisting her with her piece at Bonniers Konsthall and then followed her to Paris to work as her assistant. Chorspiel and Sterescopic Scenography is the two artists' first collaboration.

The motif of the drapery relates to the imaginary and provisionary rooms that appear in the film and to its theme of seeing, perspective and observation, which Malin Pettersson Öberg also associates to the glass architecture of the Spetsen gallery. However, where Chorspiel unfolds as an introspective, psychological operetta, the scenography approaches the theme in an extrovert and more scientific way with illustrations from old astronomy and physics books painted on the drapery, proposing an allegory of seeing.
Chorspiel was first performed as a live performance at Lilith Performance Studio in Malmö in 2010.
